Character of the village
Gassin sits on a rocky spur at two hundred and one metres, and it is from there that everything makes sense: the whole gulf opens to the north, Saint-Tropez on its point, the Maures behind. The village has been listed among France's most beautiful villages since 1994, which shows in the upkeep of the facades and the absence of cars in the lanes. Below, the land is agricultural before it is residential: vines cover a fifth of the commune, and housing scatters into hamlets, Minuty, Riboty, Saint-Jean, la Rouillère.

Schools and access
Gassin is the closest commune to Saint-Tropez by road, which makes it a practical address as much as a scenic one: you drive down for the shops and come back up to the quiet. The gulf's secondary school is in the commune, which matters to families living here year round. The Gassin golf course and the polo club occupy the plain, and part of the residential market organises itself around them.

Art de vivre
Life divides between the upper village, where people gather on the panoramic terrace at the end of the day, and the plain, which holds the polo and golf seasons. The wine estates open their cellars; the hamlet of Minuty gave its name to one of the region's most exported wines. It is a more rural than seaside way of living, ten minutes from the beaches.
